Development Officer

Development Officer–Poughkeepsie Public Library District:

The Library District seeks an individual for the new position of Development Officer who is responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining a development program for a public library. The Officer is responsible for all development programs including public information, special events, grant writing, planned giving, corporate sponsorship, foundation support and major gift solicitation. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Library Director and the Officer will supervise others in the Advancement Department.

Qualifications:

Candidates must meet minimum qualificationsfor a Development Officerwhich includes:

•Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree and four years of full-time paid experience in grant writing, fundraising, direct mail, and special events, or

•A Master’s degree and two years of full-time paid experience in grant writing, fundraising, direct mail, and special events, or

•An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits described above, and•Ability to work a flexible schedule to include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

•Must be fully Covid-19 vaccinated at time of appointmentif new to the organization.

This is a provisional Civil Service appointment. For permanent appointment, the selected candidate will serve a probationary period of up to six (6) months and must be reachable on an appropriate Civil Service List of Eligibles, once theexamination is given and the List established.

In addition to the above minimum qualifications, the Library District seeks an individual with the following attributes:

•A desire forcivic engagement with the local communityand a passion to bring the Library District’s mission and vision outside the building and to the community at large,

•Leadership and a willingness to actively participate inthe Library District’s management team,

•Willingness to participate in state and national library organizations,

•Ability to effectively use library data to analyze Library District operations to effect positive change, as needed,

•Ability to represent the Library District at local events.

About the Poughkeepsie Public Library District: The Library District (www.poklib.org) is an independent special library district serving the residents and businesses of the City and Town of Poughkeepsie with a chartered population of 75,000 and an annual budget of $9.7 million. The Library District operates the Adriance Memorial Library and the Boardman Road Branch Library along with a bookmobile service. In March 2022, the Sadie Peterson Delaney African Roots Branch Library will open at the Family Partnership Center in the City of Poughkeepsie.Compensation:This is a Civil Service appointment represented by CSEA.

Minimum salary upon appointment will be $69,229(Step 1) but could vary depending on experience and qualifications. 35 hour work week. Standard benefit package applies including medical and NYS Retirement System pension plan. Other benefits may be elected. Standard leave package applies.
